Have you found your rhythm?

A couple of years ago we purchased a diesel pickup truck as it seemed like a better choice for towing our RV for our camping and photography trips around this great nation.  I spent my career repairing diesels of all sizes, so owning one felt natural to me.

Recently, while sitting in a Dunkin’ drive-thru splurging on an iced coffee, I mentioned to Angie how much I love hearing the engine settle into that steady rhythmic purr. That chunka‑chunka melody only happens when everything inside the engine is in perfect balance – the load, the temperature, the fuel.  It’s calming and peaceful, like a resting giant.  The power is there, waiting to be called on, but for now the beast is relaxed, humming in its own smooth rhythm.

And that got me thinking about how naturally things come together when we find our rhythm.

Writing has a rhythm of its own. When you hit it, you know.  The words flow freely - pen to paper, fingers to keyboard.  The story moves and develops at a pace that feels alive, sometimes quick, always melodic. The world around you blurs as creativity takes over, uninterrupted, shaping itself into something whole and well-formed.  It doesn’t feel forced. It feels natural. It feels right.

Time slips away. You look up and realize you’ve been lost in it – wrapped in a kind of word‑coma, cocooned inside the world you’re creating.

The rhythm of writing.

Have you found your rhythm lately?  Can you relate?  Let me know in the comments below.  Until next time, may your words find their idle, their hum, their steady purr!
